A non-governmental organization, the Centre for Development, Health and Rights (CEDHAR), has announced its mission to protect the rights and well-being of rural women, children, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) through advocacy in development, healthcare, and social justice.
The grassroots group said it is dedicated to amplifying the voices of marginalized and excluded people in Nigeria’s underserved communities.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Moses Omidiora, on Sunday, CEDHAR explained that its main goal is to promote access to justice, fair healthcare, social accountability, and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable groups.
“The launch of CEDHAR is a bold step towards creating a more just, inclusive, and fair society. We are here to challenge systems that exclude people, empower grassroots communities, and work with institutions and policymakers to protect human dignity and equal opportunities for everyone,” the statement said.
Omidiora said that CEDHAR’s approach combines development, health, and human rights in its work with communities to break the cycle of poverty, exclusion, and social injustice. He stressed that their activities will focus on people-centered and justice-driven solutions.
“Our development model puts people first and is guided by justice. CEDHAR is committed to making sure every project we carry out follows this belief, whether it’s through legal support, policy advocacy, grassroots mobilization, or youth leadership development,” Omidiora said.
He further explained that the organisation will advocate for fairness and social inclusion by defending the rights of women, children, and PWDs, while also encouraging economic independence through livelihood support and social entrepreneurship programmes.
CEDHAR’s key focus areas include access to justice, gender equality, youth empowerment, good governance, economic inclusion, and human rights education. The organization also plans to collaborate with both government and civil society groups to build inclusive systems that meet the needs of local communities.
“Our vision is to create a world where everyone, no matter their status, can enjoy their rights, receive quality healthcare, and live with dignity,” the statement added.
CEDHAR said it will continue grassroots advocacy and build strategic partnerships to help create stronger and more resilient communities across Nigeria.
