The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has finished a two-day planning meeting to shape its work plan for 2025.
In a statement on Friday, NEMA said the workshop took place in Abuja from June 10 to 11. It brought together key people from across Nigeria’s emergency services to plan how to work better together.
The main goal of the meeting was to look at how well NEMA is currently working, understand new challenges, and set goals for 2025. This is part of its duty to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters in Nigeria.
People at the meeting included top NEMA staff, regional coordinators, and experts from other government bodies and aid groups. They talked about how the 2024 plan performed, looked at past emergency data, and worked in groups to improve teamwork, emergency warnings, transport, and local disaster planning.
NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, opened the event by stressing how important good planning is for quick and effective emergency responses. She said NEMA is committed to working with other agencies to build a stronger and more prepared Nigeria.
At the end of the workshop, they created a draft plan for 2025. It includes ideas from everyone at the meeting and will guide NEMA’s work next year. The focus will be on building stronger systems, working closely with partners, and responding quickly and fairly to disasters across the country.
