The Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Usman Mazadu, has assured residents that adequate measures have been taken to mitigate the impact of flooding in the state during the 2025 rainy season.
Mazadu made this known on Wednesday in Kaduna while briefing journalists on the agency’s emergency preparedness and ongoing sensitisation efforts in flood-prone areas.
He explained that the measures were in line with the directive of Governor Uba Sani to prioritise the safety of residents, particularly those living in communities identified by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) as being at high risk of flooding.
“The state government has provided camping materials for Safe Haven Centres across the 13 Local Government Areas identified as high-risk by NiMet. In addition, we have made provision for adequate food supplies at the centres and stockpiled relief materials to respond swiftly to any natural disaster,” he said.
Mazadu noted that the agency had been conducting flood sensitisation campaigns in vulnerable communities for the past six weeks.
He urged residents to refrain from building or dumping refuse in waterways and along riverbanks, warning that such practices could worsen flooding.
“We appeal to citizens to support the government’s efforts by adhering to safety guidelines and helping to protect lives and property,” Mazadu said.
