The Chinese government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its long-standing bilateral relationship with Kano State on food security, agriculture and other areas, pledging enhanced collaboration in infrastructure development, industrial growth, and economic expansion.
According to a statement by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yu Dunhai, made this commitment on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Kano State Government House, where he led a delegation from the Chinese Embassy.
Welcoming the envoy at the Ante-Chamber of the Government House, Governor Yusuf acknowledged the mutually beneficial relationship between Kano and the Chinese community. He expressed his administration’s readiness to sustain and expand bilateral cooperation to boost Kano’s economic, industrial, and trade potential.
Ambassador Dunhai emphasized that China is refining a comprehensive bilateral engagement strategy to deepen partnerships with Kano in key areas, including Food Security & Agriculture, Infrastructure Development, Education & Knowledge Exchange and Trade & Commerce.
China’s Support for Food Security & Industrial Growth
Recognizing Kano’s large population and agricultural potential, Ambassador Dunhai stressed the importance of mechanized farming in enhancing food security. He assured the Governor of China’s readiness to provide modern agricultural machinery and expertise to boost productivity and ensure sustainable food production.
He also urged the Kano State Government to leverage over $20 trillion in Chinese investment opportunities in Nigeria to revamp the state’s industrial and commercial sectors.
“China leads in renewable energy and electric vehicle manufacturing, accounting for 60% of global production. Nigeria, with its vast economic potential, can tap into these opportunities to diversify its economy and strengthen industrial capacity,” he stated.
Governor Yusuf highlighted Kano’s rich history as a trade and industrial hub, attracting business partners from within and outside Nigeria. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for foreign investors through a newly adopted five-year multi-sectoral investment plan aimed at attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Kano.
To further strengthen economic and cultural ties, the Governor proposed the establishment of a language exchange and assimilation center, which would facilitate the teaching and learning of the Chinese language in Kano, enhancing communication and business relations.
Ambassador Dunhai assured that China will spare no effort in deepening its cooperation with Kano State, reinforcing a partnership built on mutual benefits and shared prosperity.
