Former Governor of Sokoto State, and Presidential candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The resignation is contained in a resignation letter he personally signed on January 13, and addressed to the acting national chairman of the party.

In the letter circulated on Tuesday, Bafarawa stated that his decision to resign was motivated by his “commitment to a new chapter of service that aligns with my vision of uplifting humanity through youth empowerment.”

“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This decision, though deeply personal and difficult, is motivated by my commitment to a new chapter of service that aligns with my vision of uplifting humanity through youth empowerment.”

He expressed his appreciation for the PDP, acknowledging the party’s significant role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape and contributing to nation-building.

He however explained that he had recently dedicated himself to a new youth movement focused on inspiring, empowering, and transforming the lives of young people, who he believes are the foundation of the nation’s future.

“In light of this, I wish to avoid any potential conflict of interest arising from my political affiliations. My focus will now be solely on creating avenues for youth empowerment, fostering innovation, and promoting values that contribute to a prosperous future for all.”

He also expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had to contribute to the party, commending the leadership and members for their efforts in promoting democracy and good governance.

As he transitioned into this new phase, Bafarawa sought understanding from the PDP leadership and wished the party continued success.

The state PDP spokesperson, Hassan Sanyinnawal, when contacted, said the party had not been officially notified of Bafarawa’s resignation.

“We have seen the letter circulating on social media, but neither the national secretariat nor the former governor has notified us of the development.”
