The Kaduna State Bureau of Interfaith, partnering with International Alert, a non-governmental organization, is set to host a landmark three-day conference focused on the rise of climate-induced security challenges in Nigeria’s northern region.
Scheduled for November 4-6, the event will gather top stakeholders, including religious, governmental, and traditional leaders from the 19 northern states.
The Director-General of the bureau, Umar Tahir explained that the conference will focus on how climate change is exacerbating security issues, aiming to create collaborative solutions to address these impacts.
“This is an opportunity for stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue and generate actionable strategies to reduce climate-related security risks,” he said.
The conference will feature Kaduna Governor Uba Sani as the chief host and Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen as the special guest of honour.
Topics will include climate security, peacebuilding, and the role of religious and traditional leadership in mitigating violent extremism.
The agenda includes expert presentations, such as “Climate Security and the Future of Peace in Northern Nigeria” by Bulus Saw, and “Securing the Future: Making Schools Safe for Children” by adopting education-in-emergency approaches.
