ASHENEWS reported earlier today HERE that a military helicopter, belonging to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) crashed in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In the report, an eyewitness said the incident occurred at approximately 5:00 am, causing significant alarm among residents.
The helicopter was said to be on a routine operational flight, but experienced technical difficulties that led to the crash.
Fortunately, the pilot managed to execute emergency protocols effectively, ensuring his survival.
However, NAF has clarified that the widely circulated reports on social media and some traditional media platforms of a helicopter crash in Kaduna are incorrect.
According to the spokesperson of the Kano Command, Abdullahi Labaran, it was an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), not a helicopter, that experienced a mishap shortly after take-off for a mission near Rumji Village, approximately 15 kilometres from the base.

“Fortunately, there were no casualties since the vehicle was unmanned, and no damage was reported on the ground. A preliminary investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.”
The investigation aims to uncover the reasons behind the UAV’s malfunction to prevent future occurrences.
He added that NAF remains committed to maintaining operational readiness and safety standards, and has assured Nigerians that this minor setback will not impact ongoing operations.
