Some pictures have surfaced in some individual postings, groups and pages from Niger state on Facebook showing queues in filling stations as an indication of the level of fuel scarcity biting across the state.
One of the picture was posted by a Facebook User Suleiman Ibrahim and the picture was posted with text which reads, “GENERAL PRAYER . Who so ever hoard fuel in the name of making more money. May God drop huge calamity on him please say amen. We dey vex it is high time God come between we and the hoarders fuel in Bida 1600.”

The same picture was posted by Umar Idris Ndazuru on a public group ‘Nigerlites Speak Out’. It was posted with text which read, “Just look at it. If You Allowed People To Suffered, Wallahi You Will Account Before The Almighty Allah.”
Umar also posted another picture with text which read “This Is Just The Begining. JAGABA Ya Karbai Kasa .”

ASHENEWS check with Google Reverse Image showed that the first picture was first used on the 17th August 2023 by Punch Newspaper with the title ‘Fuel Price Hike triggers panic buying in Lagos.’
ASHENEWS check also with Google Reverse Image on the second picture showed that it has been used by BBC News Pidgin on the 30th November 2022 in a news titled ‘Nigeria goment tok why fuel scarcity return to di kontri’.
What is the fact?
There is no doubt that there is fuel scarcity across the country and Niger state as a state is also affected. The fuel situation has worsened in the last few days which has led to long queues in filling stations.
However, the pictures which were used to portray the visuals of how the scarcity is affecting the people in Niger state is false and misleading.
