Elon Musk’s company Neuralink, which said it could connect the brain to a computer using neural implants, has raised another 280 million dollars from investors.
The fresh funding round was led by technology investor, Peter Thiel’s venture capitalist Founders Fund, Neuralink said in a social media post on Monday.
The company’s planned device would be connected directly to the human brain with fine electrodes. Neuralink is initially researching medical applications.
The first goal was for people who could not move to operate a computer through their thoughts.
Later, the hope was to restore sight and speech with the help of technology.
Billionaire Musk is also talking about a future in which people expanded their abilities by connecting to a computer.
Neuralink received approval for clinical trials on humans in the U.S. this year.
Other companies and researchers were also working on similar technologies.
