The Cowpea and Beans Farmers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (C&BFPMAN) has attributed the significant drop in beans prices across the country to record-high harvest yields and improved farming practices.
A cross-section of Nigerians has expressed concern over the escalating cost of beans, a staple and formerly affordable source of protein for many families.
Canteen and restaurant owners in Lagos State have decried the rising cost of beans as they seek the Federal Government’s intervention over the staple food.
“But we are also one of the highest consumers, producing 5.2M Metric Tonnes of dried cowpeas annually and consuming 3.6M Metric Tonne,” she said.
