Nigerian women are making big moves in global innovation. At TICAD 9, they showed how women-led businesses are helping Africa grow in technology and digital development.
TICAD 9, held in Yokohama, Japan, focused on creating new ideas with Africa. It brought together African leaders, international investors, and development partners to explore ways to help the continent grow.
During a key session about African startups, three Nigerian women stood out. They presented exciting tech ideas to Japanese investors and other global experts.
These women were part of the IgniteHer Bootcamp, a program by NITDA and JICA. Their tech solutions focused on improving healthcare, education, and maternal health in Nigeria.
The program aims to remove the barriers that stop women from getting funding, mentorship, and recognition in the tech world.
One standout, Kemisola Bolarinwa of Nextwear Technologies, presented a smart device that uses AI to detect early signs of breast issues. Another, Anita Ngeri of Nibi’s Tech, introduced an education platform teaching students in the Niger Delta digital skills like coding and robotics.
Odion Ikyo of PrimeSafePath Solutions showed her company’s AI platform, MaternalRecord Pro. It helps primary health centers reduce maternal deaths by using real-time data to detect risks.
These presentations showed the strength of Nigeria’s innovation scene and how women-led startups are helping shape Africa’s digital future. The event also supported Project NINJA, a JICA program to help startups grow, find funding, and build global partnerships.
As Nigeria continues to grow its digital economy, NITDA promised to keep supporting women in tech. The message from the event was clear: helping women in technology is not just fair—it’s smart and necessary for Africa’s future success.
