ASHENEWS reports that the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Minna Branch has inducted 480 engineering graduates of the Federal University of Technology, Minna into the society as graduate members.
The graduates were inducted during the 2nd Graduate Membership Induction Ceremony held on Friday at the 1000 Seater Capacity Hall, Gidan Kwanu Campus of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
In his remark, the Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Minna Branch, Engr. Dr Liman Yerima encouraged the newly inducted graduates to adhere strictly to the core values of the profession.
Yerima noted that engineers must evolve with the changing times, especially with the advancement in the use of artificial intelligence.
According to him, “Your ability to adopt this new technology will decide your success in the profession.”
He also urged them to make good use of the training acquired, stressing that quality is important in their activities.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta charged the inductees to maintain integrity in their respective fields of work.
Kuta urged them to desist from compromising standards, adding that society is looking up to them to address the problems bedeviling the industry, especially as it relates to recent incidents of building collapse in the country.
Delivering a lecture on the topic “The Ethics of Engineering Profession,” the General Manager of the Niger State Water Sewage and Corporation, Engr. Gimba Yisa stressed that abiding by ethics is necessary for engineers to carry out their professional obligations.
Yisa identified accuracy, rigor, safety, and integrity as important ethics that the graduate members must imbibe to prosper in the profession.
