QNET, a direct-selling wellness company, has urged regulators and the media to clearly distinguish legitimate direct selling from scams in order to protect young Nigerians from fraudulent schemes.
The Regional General Manager of QNET Sub-Saharan Africa, Cherif Bassirou Abdoulaye, made the call on Saturday during a two-day QNET Product Expo in Lagos.
He stressed that QNET promotes product-based entrepreneurship, not recruitment-driven schemes, and noted that the company’s name has been misused across several African countries to lure young people with false promises.
“Africa needs a regulatory environment similar to mature markets in Asia and Europe to shield ambitious youths from fraudsters,” Abdoulaye said.
He also highlighted QNET’s FinGreen Programme, which has trained more than 1,500 young Nigerians in financial literacy, budgeting and risk awareness.
Also speaking, the General Manager of QNET Nigeria, Ayokunmi Solesi, said the persistent confusion between legitimate direct selling and Ponzi or pyramid schemes remained a major challenge for the industry.
“We invited media partners to be our eyes and voice. They should interrogate products, understand certifications and help the public distinguish fraudulent schemes from regulated direct selling,” he said.
Solesi added that QNET had dismantled networks misusing its brand and retrained independent representatives on ethical practices. He noted that the company’s anti-scam campaign was recognized at the International Business Awards.
He called for mandatory product registration, codes of conduct and strict penalties for misrepresentation to better protect consumers.
Speaking on QNET’s wellness products, Berni Gaksch, Regional Strategy and Marketing Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, said the product line was designed to address rising pollution, digital overload and stress, particularly among young Nigerians.
He noted that Lagos now faces heavier traffic, higher industrial activity and increased exposure to air pollutants and electromagnetic fields than a decade ago.
“While technology is indispensable, it also quietly worsens sleep problems, anxiety and other health challenges,” Gaksch said.
He explained that QNET’s wellness products, including the BioDisc, Chi Pendant and E-Guard X, use structured water, geometrical patterns and resonance technologies to transform harmful radiation into beneficial energy and support the body’s natural balance.
Gaksch added that the products were backed by international certifications and ongoing research collaborations with institutions such as Covenant University in Nigeria.
