The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has attributed the recent network disruptions in parts of Abuja to challenges in diesel supply to IHS Nigeria Limited.
The Head of Public Affairs at the NCC, Mrs Nnenna Ukoha, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.
IHS Nigeria is a major independent owner, operator and developer of shared telecommunications infrastructure, including cell towers, for mobile network operators across Africa.
Ukoha said the commission was aware of the quality-of-service challenges currently being experienced by telecommunications subscribers in some areas of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to her, the service disruptions are linked to ongoing activities by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which have affected the delivery of diesel to critical telecommunications sites.
She said the commission is taking proactive steps to facilitate dialogue between affected service providers and relevant stakeholders to ensure a swift resolution of the diesel supply issues impacting service quality.
“We understand the inconvenience caused by these service disruptions.
“We wish to reassure the public that the commission, working with relevant government agencies and affected operators, is taking decisive steps to restore normal service levels as quickly as possible.
“We remain committed to effectively managing the situation and will keep the public informed on progress towards restoring full telecommunications services in Abuja.
“We thank subscribers for their understanding and patience during this period, and reaffirm our commitment to enabling high-quality telecommunications services nationwide,” she said.
