The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Defence to spearhead the production of military hardware using indigenous innovation and technology.
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, NASENI’s Director of Information, Mr. Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, highlighted that the MoU, signed on Wednesday, marks a significant step towards redefining Nigeria’s defence capabilities and securing the nation’s future.
Ayeoyenikan emphasized that the current global security environment necessitates Nigeria’s proactive positioning to tackle emerging threats with homegrown solutions.
The Executive Vice Chairman, NASENI Mr. Khalil Halilu, underscored the MoU as a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging its scientific and engineering expertise for national defence.
He noted that the collaboration aims to establish a robust ecosystem that meets the needs of the Nigerian armed forces while promoting the growth of local industries.
“Our goal in this partnership is to ensure that our military is equipped with the best tools to defend our nation.
“Through this partnership, we will lay the foundation for a self-reliant defence industry that will contribute to economic growth,” Halilu stated.
