The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan for the Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” Cycling Race scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 11, from 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos.
Osiyemi said the 170-kilometre cycling race, organized by the Dynastar Sport and Education Foundation, would feature two routes.
According to him, the 70-kilometre route will start at Eko Atlantic, pass through Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway and Sangotedo, before returning to Eko Atlantic as the finishing point.
He explained that the 170-kilometre route will also begin at Eko Atlantic and run through Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Sangotedo, Epe T-Junction, Ita Marun Junction, Poka-Araga Road, Oke Osho Junction and Temu Road, before returning to Eko Atlantic via the Epe T-Junction.
Osiyemi said that for effective traffic management, all adjoining roads, junctions and intersections along the race routes would be regulated by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other security agencies to prevent unauthorized access.
He noted that roads would remain partially open during the event and advised motorists to exercise patience, cooperate with traffic officials and comply with all traffic directives.
“These measures are put in place to ensure the safety of participants and other road users throughout the event,” he said.
The Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” is a mass participation cycling event designed to promote sports tourism, healthy living and sustainable mobility.
According to the state government, the event will also showcase Lagos’ infrastructure, coastal scenery and vibrant culture.
