The Federal Government has reaffirmed Galaxy Backbone (GBB) as its official provider of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services.
This was announced in a statement on Monday in Abuja by the Head of Corporate Communications of GBB, Mr. Chidi Okpala.
Okpala said the decision was aimed at making full use of the huge investment already made in the National Information Communications Technology Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB) for the benefit of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
He explained that under the new directive, GBB remains the approved provider of ICT infrastructure for MDAs. This includes internet services, data centre hosting, and other related ICT solutions.
He added that GBB was established by the government to safeguard Nigeria’s data and provide a central e-government platform that offers secure connectivity and ICT services.
Over the years, GBB has upgraded its facilities and received several international certifications, proving it can deliver secure and reliable technology services at global standards.
Okpala said this renewed endorsement also positions GBB as the official government data exchange platform and the central layer for Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure.
This means GBB will be responsible for coordinating and managing all federal digital systems to ensure they work together smoothly and protect Nigeria’s data sovereignty.
He noted that while compliance with the policy is important, GBB’s main mission is to build trust and collaboration with MDAs while delivering excellent ICT services.
Okpala also encouraged government agencies currently hosting their data abroad to move their operations to GBB platforms, promising better service, stronger security, and alignment with international best practices.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of GBB, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, said the agency had been repositioned to improve quality, reliability, and innovation.
He assured MDAs that GBB is committed to providing ICT solutions tailored to their needs while ensuring Nigeria’s data stays safe within the country.
Adeyanju added that the renewed partnership with MDAs would speed up Nigeria’s digital transformation and boost economic growth.
