Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has told government workers in the state to accept digital change or risk being left behind.
He gave this message during the launch of a three-day training program called the e-Government Capacity Building Programme, which aims to modernize how the state government works using technology.
The training took place from August 20th to 22nd at the Enugu State College of Education (Technical), with 110 government officials learning how to use digital tools in their jobs.
The program was organized through a partnership between the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and Enugu State’s Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.
Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, represented the governor at the event. He delivered the governor’s message encouraging a new way of working in government—faster, more transparent, and more responsible.
Onyia said the governor is working hard to make jobs easier for public workers. He explained that the government is now reducing paper use and focusing on smarter, digital work methods—this is what e-governance means.
He also said the government is investing in both technology and people. The goal is to train workers properly, give them the right tools, and hold them accountable if they fail. He urged civil servants to support the governor’s digital vision.
Onyia added that civil servants must adopt a new work culture—one that is consistent, innovative, and always seeking improvement. He told them to make use of every chance to learn and grow.
“This training is just the beginning,” he said. “We’re starting a new way of working in Enugu that values technology, responsibility, and constant development.”
He thanked the Federal Ministry and KOICA for helping make the training happen and looked forward to working with them again in the future.
He also praised Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, the state’s Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, calling him someone who always performs well, no matter the situation.
Commissioner Ezeh called the training a big step forward and promised that his ministry would keep pushing to achieve the governor’s digital goals.
He said the program fits with global trends and shows that Enugu is serious about using technology to improve governance.
According to him, the training is part of a bigger plan by Governor Mbah to make Enugu one of Nigeria’s top states in digital public service.
This move also supports global efforts to make government work more sustainable and efficient, by moving from old paper-based systems to digital methods.
The training included topics like digital file management, data protection, cloud technology, and tools for working with other government agencies.
After the training, participants are expected to use their new skills in their ministries and offices to make work faster and reduce unnecessary delays.
