The Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Maj.-Gen. Kevin Aligbe, says the Nigerian Army is harnessing Research and Development (R&D) to boost its operational effectiveness.
Speaking in Minna on Tuesday at the opening of the Nigerian Army Department of Research and Development, Test and Evaluation Conference 2025, Aligbe said R&D was central to adapting to global technological breakthroughs.
The conference, themed “Research and Development: A Paradigm for Doctrinal Guidance to Training in Contemporary Operational Environment,” is part of the Army’s 2025 Forecast of Events.

Aligbe explained that the forum was designed to build capacity, share knowledge, and explore new technologies that could enhance battlefield success and tackle Nigeria’s security challenges.
“We must acknowledge the efforts of our troops, toiling day and night to keep Nigeria safe. This event will help us reflect on field experiences and chart new ways forward,” he said.
The TRADOC commander urged participants to take the sessions seriously, stressing that the outcomes would also strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
Earlier, Maj.-Gen. Aminu Shehu-Chinade described the event as epoch-making, saying technology was redefining the way nations live and work. He noted that the Nigerian Army, like advanced militaries worldwide, was prioritizing R&D to stay ahead in modern warfare.
