Mr. Kehinde Apara, President of the Association of Mobile Communications Device Technicians (AMCODET), has unveiled a proposal to establish a City Computer Village and Technology Hub in Ijeshaland, specifically in Ibokun, Osun State.
Apara, who is also the convener of the initiative, disclosed this in an interview with reporters on Monday in Lagos.
He said the project was designed to function as a modern smart city hub for technology and commerce, leveraging the renowned entrepreneurial ingenuity of the Ijesa people, known for their innovative “Osomalo” business model.
According to him, the initiative aims to drive massive economic growth and position Ibokun as a significant commercial centre in the South-West region.
“The international market is envisioned not just as a trading centre but as a fully integrated smart city, incorporating modern technology and infrastructure to foster a vibrant business environment,” Apara said.
He explained that the project would serve as a strong catalyst for local economic development, stimulate entrepreneurship, and generate thousands of jobs during both the construction and operational phases.
Apara emphasized that the project’s sustainability depends largely on strong government support and credible private sector investment.
He said the promoters would highlight the tangible economic benefits — including increased GDP, employment opportunities, and higher state revenue — to attract government backing.
He added that Osun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Pastor Bunmi Jenyo, had expressed confidence in the credibility of the project and the financial capacity of potential investors.
Similarly, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Market Affairs, Mrs. Eniola Omotosho, had pledged her support for the initiative to ensure its successful implementation.
Apara noted that the project would not only boost technology and commerce but also contribute to community development through improved infrastructure and public services.
He said the implementation strategy included building strong partnerships with relevant government agencies and local leaders, supported by a comprehensive proposal outlining the project’s vision, goals, and operational blueprint.
According to him, attracting credible investors remains a top priority, with a focus on showcasing the region’s untapped market potential and promising high returns on investment.
Engagement with potential investors, he added, would be prioritized through industry events, conferences, and networking sessions.
“The successful implementation of the Ijesha City Computer Village International Market is expected to redefine the commercial landscape of Osun State,” Apara said.
“It will move the state further up the value chain of Nigeria’s burgeoning digital economy.”
