[VIEWPOINT] Why Ondo North deserves better candidate, By Ayedogbon Ayodele

The question of who can rescue Ondo North from its recurring political disappointments has become a familiar refrain in the politics of Ondo State. Election after election, the district appears trapped in a cycle that has delivered little in terms of responsive representation and sustainable development.

It is time to break that cycle.

The people of Ondo North must begin to think differently about leadership—moving beyond routine choices and entrenched interests to demand a candidate who truly reflects their aspirations at the Senate, often referred to as the Red Chamber. Progress cannot come from repeating the same decisions while expecting different outcomes.

What the district urgently needs is a forward-looking, people-centered representative—someone with the capacity to confront challenges, translate ideas into tangible results, and remain accessible to constituents in moments that matter most. Representation should not be seasonal or transactional; it must be consistent, accountable, and development-driven.

There is a growing sentiment that Ondo North deserves a candidate who understands its unique needs and is committed to long-term transformation rather than short-term political gains. This is where the candidacy of Engr. Michael Adeyanju Abayomi is being positioned by supporters as a viable alternative—one they believe embodies competence, empathy, and a readiness to serve.

The call, therefore, is for voters to reassess their choices and resist the pattern of endorsing politicians who only reconnect with the electorate during election cycles. The power of the ballot should be used not just as a civic duty, but as a tool for accountability and change.

Ondo North stands at a critical juncture. With collective resolve and a shift in orientation, the district can redefine its political trajectory and reclaim its future.

The time to act, many believe, is now.

Ayedogbon Ayodele is a member of the Imole Progressive Network (IPN).
