Rep. Dasuki declines 2027 re-election bid, steps aside for youth leadership

Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki has announced that he will not seek re-election into the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election, describing his decision as a personal sacrifice to give younger Nigerians a chance to serve and lead.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, Dasuki reflected on his public service journey since 2011 — spanning the Sokoto State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives, and the State Executive Council — where he said he worked to advance security, youth and women empowerment, and community development.

He explained that his decision was not out of fatigue or disillusionment but a “higher calling” rooted in the ideals of the Future Is Now Project, an initiative he helped establish to promote youth inclusion in governance.

“The Nigeria we yearn for is only possible through sacrifice,” Dasuki stated. “After due consultation with my team, our leader, my family and my conscience, I have decided not to seek re-election to the House of Representatives in 2027. This decision is not born out of fatigue, nor disillusionment, but out of a higher calling — a belief in a future we all desire to see.”

He recalled that during the Future Is Now Project launch on October 1, 2025, the group committed to ensuring that 70% of House of Representatives seats be occupied by young Nigerians under 40 years in the next election cycle. Having crossed that age threshold, Dasuki said he must lead by example.

“If we are to inspire the trust of the generation coming after us, we must be willing to sacrifice,” he said. “And so, I choose to make space for the vision we proclaimed.”

Dasuki reaffirmed his commitment to championing education, youth and women empowerment, and development at all levels, vowing to continue contributing to Nigeria’s progress even outside elective office.

He expressed gratitude to his political mentor and leader, former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for his guidance and trust, and thanked his constituents for their unwavering support over the years.

“To the youth of this constituency, Sokoto State and Nigeria: The time is now! No more waiting. No more excuses. Take your place. Stand tall. Lead with courage, integrity, and vision,” he urged.

“As I step aside, I wish to bequeath a new legacy in Nigeria’s political history — one that showcases leaders who know when to exit, paving the way for a fresher generation with the energy and vision to reengineer our country’s future.”

He concluded: “Serving you has been the greatest honour of my life. God bless our youth, our constituency, Sokoto State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
