Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former LP governorship candidate in Lagos, has strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after security operatives sealed off the venue of a planned African Democratic Congress (ADC) meeting in Alimosho.
The event, scheduled to hold at Lion Field, was halted when police and other security operatives barricaded the premises despite prior approvals secured by the organisers.
Rhodes-Vivour, who recently aligned himself with the ADC, described the action as an attack on democracy and a calculated attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to silence the opposition. He accused Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu of abusing state power to intimidate political rivals, warning that such undemocratic practices could plunge Lagos into deeper political crisis.
In a video message recorded at the sealed venue, he explained that the party had duly notified both the Area Command and the local police station about the event. The documents were acknowledged, minuted, and forwarded to the Commissioner of Police. Yet, on the day of the meeting, security operatives stormed the field and sealed it off without explanation.
He revealed that after being directed to meet with the Commissioner of Police, he and his team waited at the commissioner’s office for over two hours but were ignored.
Rhodes-Vivour vowed that no amount of intimidation, sealed venues, or harassment would stop the ADC from engaging with Lagosians. He stressed that Lagos belongs to all its residents and not a privileged political class, insisting that the constitutional right of association cannot be suppressed.
“The people of Lagos will not be silenced. This movement will go on, and no act of intimidation will stop us from reaching the people,” he declared.
As of press time, neither the Lagos State Government nor the police command had issued an official response.
