The Kano State Police Command, has arrested a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aminu Ali Shana with 367 suspected Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), Daily Sun has reported.
Arrested on October 14, 2022, Aminu is the APC Chairman of Yautan Arewa ward in Gabasawa local government area of the state.
Confirming his arrest, the spokesperson of the Kano state Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa revealed that the suspect had been taken into their custody, saying investigation had commenced.
According to Kiyawa, the police had dispatched the suspected PVCs to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for confirmation after which all the persons whose faces appeared on the cards might be invited for questioning.
The offence contravenes Section 21 and 22 sub-section 1(a), (b) and (c) of the Electoral Act (amended).
Recall that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State had through its spokesperson, Sanusi Bature raised the alarm, alleging that some politicians in the State were hoarding/buying PVCs from voters in areas where they doubt their chances of performing well in the 2023 general elections.
