The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate for Itas/Gadau/Jama’are Federal Constituency election in Bauchi state, Ms. Shamsiya Abubakar has pledged to empower youth and women if elected in the 2023 general election.
Abubakar said on Tuesday in Bauchi that she would also ensure full implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law.
She said that she would work with colleagues of like minds at the national assembly to ensure that perpetrators of Gender Based Violence (GBV) face the full wrath of the law.
The candidate said the spate of GBV cases had been a public concern, hence the need to enforce punishment to make society safe.
She also promised to provide good representation towards making sound legislation to fast-track implementation of the 35 percent affirmation for better women’s involvement in governance.
“Indeed women have issues in Bauchi state. I will initiate programmes and policies to address issues such as basic healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship development if given the mandate.
“GBV is another area that needs serious attention. People should be made to have the confidence to speak out,” she said.
Abubakar appreciated women for their support and urged them to vote for female candidates contesting various elective posts in the state.
She, however, identified lack of funds as the major obstacle militating against her to put up a robust campaign programme.
Similarly; Dinatu Stephen, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate for the Lere/Bula state constituency election, promised to empower youths and people with disabilities to improve their well-being.
Stephen added that she would accord priority to peace and security as well as initiate viable projects for the sustainable social and economic development of the state.
