ASHENEWS reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on Friday announced that it discovered oil in Nasarawa state.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL, Mele Kyari made the announcement of the oil discovery when the Nasarawa state governor, Abdullahi Sule led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the NNPCL headquarters in Abuja.
Recall that the company had committed to explore oil resources across the northern parts of the country where there is visibility of the presence of the product.
The discovery therefore is in continuation of its oil exploration activities in the country’s inland basins.
According to the NNPCL, it would spud the first oil well in the state in March 2023.
This online platform reports that the NNPCL’s prospection of crude oil in more locations across the North led to the discovery of oil in Bauchi, and Gombe states recently.
The NNPCL had taken coordinated steps for more frontier exploration in the region from 2020 to 2022, especially in Niger, Nasarawa, Sokoto, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe states.
The development is part of measures to shore up the country’s oil output, and reserves, and beyond the North to include the Anambra basin.
Prospecting is the first stage in discovering the oil and gas fields, under which seismic surveys are carried out.
