ASHENEWS reporter, Fatima Zahra Muhammad has been shortlisted for the 2023 Wakaso Award for Young Female Journalists in Niger state.
This online platform further reports that the announcement for the award was made by the organisers on May 30, 2023.
The competition is sponsored by the Special Assistant to Niger state governor on Print Media, Aisha Wakaso.
An announcement by the organisers on Thursday, said Muhammad was listed with four other finalists, including Salmah Abdullahi, Jemimah Dada, Hamida Abdullahi, and Maryam Abubakar, for the recognition.
“The competition, which received 21 entries seeks to provide a unique opportunity for young female journalists in Niger state.
“The 21 applicants filled out the application forms out of which 16 submitted their articles, as the main requirement for consideration.
“By testing their journalistic skills, the competition seeks to empower outstanding female journalists in their professional journey.
“The primary objective is to provide a platform for young female journalists in Niger state to exhibit their writing prowess, creativity, and critical thinking abilities.
“By focusing on this competition, we aim to foster talent, encourage gender equality in the field of journalism, and amplify the voices of young women in the state,” the organizers said.
According to the organizers, three winners will emerge among the shortlisted journalists during the award ceremony which is scheduled to hold in Minna on June 12th, 2023.
