Senator Aliyu Wamakko on Saturday in Sokoto, announced a donation of N19.8 million at the launch of three books written by a renowned Islamic cleric, Dr Jabir Mai-hula.
He announced N3 million donation by the Senate president, Dr Ahmad Lawan; N1 million by Senate leader, Dr Abdullahi Yahayya; N1 million by the Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi; his personal donation of N3 million and N2 million by Senator Ibrahim Gobir.
Others donations were N3 million by Senator Danjuma Goje; N2 million by Senator Adamu Aliero; N1 million by Seantor Abdullahi Adamu; N1 million by Senator Lawalli Anka and N2 milloon by Senator Ibrahim Danbaba.
Others included N1 million by Senator Bala Na’Allah; N100,000 by Hon. Ahmad Kalambaina; N100,000 by Amb. Sahabi Gada; N100,000 by Alhaji Harande Mahe, Special Adviser to Dingyadi; N100,000 by Sheikh Bashir Gidan Kanawa and N200,000 by Alhaji Nasiru Bodinga, Chairman, Police Public Relations Committee (PCRC), Sokoto State.
The total donation at the book launch in cash and pledges amounted to N92 million.
Wamakko stressed the importance of education and pledged to continue to support Islamic propagation as well as the studies, recitation and memorization of the glorious Qur’an.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal stated that the books will help in enlightening the people that Islam is a religion of peace, and not violence or fundamentalism.
He promised that the Sokoto State Government will partner the various Islamic clerics with a view to changing the negative narratives against Islam and Muslims.
Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, who concurred with Lau, also promised to continue to sustain the ongoing publications of the books written by the founders of the Sokoto Caliphate.
According to the Sultan, the Muslim Ummah was united, adding that the Sultanate Council was partnering by the with Sokoto State University, with a view to commencing Caliphate Studies.
Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’a Wa Iqamatus Sunnah, JIBWIS, Sheikh Abdullahi Lau, commended the author and described Islam as the religion of peace.
The author, Mai-hula who is Head of Department, Islamic Studies, Sokoto State University as well as Chief Imam, Sultan Sa’ad Juma’at Mosque, Gwiwa Low cost, said that his intention was to contribute to the growth and development of Islam.
The three books launched were: Ibn Taimiyya in the Literature of Contemporary Jihadists; Tabdili Sunnatu, Mursalu Ilal Jannat and its Hausa translation.
