The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, has condemned the resolution by the Martin Amaewhule-led House barring Governor Siminalayi Fubara from spending public funds.
Oko-Jumbo declared the Amaewhule group’s action invalid, citing their defection to the APC, rendering them no longer members of the Assembly.
He emphasized the legal standing of his assembly, which had already passed the appropriation bill under Edison Ehie, who was legally recognized as Speaker.
Oko-Jumbo urged the public to disregard the Amaewhule pronouncement and called on INEC to conduct bye-elections to fill the 25 vacant seats.
This followed Amaewhule’s ultimatum and subsequent vote to shut down the Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Account, which Fubara’s administration ignored, continuing with the budget passed earlier.
