Members of the Ogun House of Assembly on Tuesday in Abeokuta re-elected Mr. Olakunle Oluomo (APC-Ifo I) as the Speaker of the state’s 10th assembly.

Oluomo was the Deputy Speaker in the eighth assembly before emerging the Speaker in the ninth assembly.

Oluomo has now been re-elected the Speaker unopposed, after he was nominated by Mr. Musefiu Lamidi (APC-Ado Odo/Ota II) and the nomination seconded by Mr. Ifedolapo Owode (PDP-Ijebu East).

Similarly, Mrs. Lateefat Ajayi (APC-Yewa South) was unanimously elected the Deputy Speaker following her nomination by Mrs. Oluwayemisi Bakare (APC-Ijebu Ode).

Her nomination was seconded by Olusegun Kaka (APC-Ijebu North II).

The election of both Oluomo and Ajayi came after the Assembly Clerk, Mr. Deji Adeyemo, had announced the need for the elections of Speaker, his deputy and other House principal officers.

Oluomo, in his acceptance speech, appreciated God for the opportunity and promised that the 10th assembly would work for the peace and progress of the state.

The speaker assured the people of the state that the legislature would make laws which would be of great benefit to the growth and development of the state.

“I won’t take your support for granted. I appreciate all members for the opportunity. We shall run one House that will bring dividends of democracy to all the nooks and crannies of the state.

“We shall work together for the progress of the state. We shall work with the Executive without compromising the issue of welfare of people and development of the state,” he said.

Oluomo also expressed his appreciation of Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s efforts in ensuring the success of the inauguration of the 10th assembly.
