Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the (ICPC), the Nigeria Police and the over what he described as an unlawful search of his Abuja residence.
In the suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, El-Rufai is challenging the validity of a search warrant allegedly issued by an FCT Chief Magistrate, arguing that it was defective and obtained without probable cause.
El-Rufai claimed operatives executed the warrant at his home, conducted a search and seized documents and electronic devices in violation of his constitutional rights, including privacy and personal liberty.
The former governor is seeking a declaration that the warrant is null and void, the return of all seized items, an order barring the use of materials obtained during the search in any proceedings, and N1 billion in compensatory, exemplary and aggravated damages.
