The United Nations has condemned the recent attack on a helicopter belonging to the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Stéphane Dujarric called for a probe and sanctioning of those responsible for the act.
It also warned that such acts may be considered an act of war crimes by the international community.
“The secretary-general reaffirms that the United Nations, through his Special Representative in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will continue to support the Congolese Government and people,
“Reports indicate that the helicopter was shot down while en route to Goma, North Kivu province from Beni.
One person, a South African peacekeeper was reported dead while another was left severely injured.
