Ukraine reported multiple explosions as the country’s air defence repelled attacks on the capital Kiev on Tuesday.
Heavy explosions from anti-aircraft missiles woke residents in Kiev, with missile debris falling on the city’s zoo, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
Three people were injured and a large building damaged, he said. In addition, several cars caught fire.
Air alerts sounded throughout the country during the night, and Klitschko reminded residents not to venture out.
“Stay in shelters!’’ the mayor wrote on his Telegram channel.
Klitschko said the wreckage of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fell in the south-eastern district of Darnytskyi.
Russia invaded neighbouring Ukraine over a year ago and had repeatedly attacked it with combat drones since last autumn, often targeting public infrastructure such as power plants.
