Iran’s spiritual leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has endorsed the recently signed memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, while emphasizing that Tehran will closely monitor the implementation of the agreement and resist any excessive demands from Washington.
In a statement addressed to the Iranian people, Khamenei said the agreement was reached after extensive efforts by Iranian officials, whom he commended for acting with concern for national interests and good intentions.
The spiritual leader revealed that he had initially held reservations about the deal but ultimately granted approval based on assurances provided by Iran’s president and members of the Supreme National Security Council.
“Of course, it was the American president who, out of desperation, used various forms of leverage to bring this about. In principle, I had a different view,” Khamenei stated.
He explained that his decision to authorize the agreement was influenced by commitments from the Iranian president, who assured him that the rights of the Iranian nation and the interests of what he described as the “Resistance Front” would be protected.
According to Khamenei, the president also pledged that Iran would not yield should the United States attempt to impose demands beyond the agreed framework.
“From this moment, we, meaning you, the proud nation, and this humble servant, will be awaiting the fulfillment of the stated conditions,” he said.
Khamenei further stressed that upcoming face-to-face negotiations between Iranian and American officials should not be interpreted as acceptance of U.S. positions or policies.
“However, it is obvious that the in-person negotiations that will take place in the future do not mean acceptance of the enemy’s view,” he noted.
The statement signals cautious support from Iran’s highest spiritual authority for the emerging diplomatic understanding with Washington, while underscoring Tehran’s insistence on safeguarding its sovereignty and strategic interests during future negotiations.
Khamenei concluded by expressing hope that divine guidance and support would lead to success and victory for the Iranian people.
