No fewer than 4,500 Germans living in Israel have registered on a precautionary list for direct crisis information following the Hamas attacks, according to the German Foreign Office.
A spokesman in Berlin on Monday said that it is assumed that many more Germans and people with dual citizenship were in Isreal.
With the registration in the “Elefand” system, Germans abroad can be quickly informed by German representatives in acute situations and included in possible crisis measures.
The ministry spokesman said that German government’s crisis team would meet again on Monday.
He said that a close coordination with the embassy in Israel is being maintained.
He added that information would be provided on the internet and on site, including details on how to leave the country by commercial flights or by land.
