The Zamfara State Primary Health Care Board, in collaboration with development partners, has mobilized 1,997 vaccination teams for the November integrated polio campaign across all Local Government Areas of the state.
Dr. Murtala Salahudeen, Incident Manager of the State Polio Emergency Operations Centre, disclosed this on Saturday in Gusau during a media dialogue organized to sensitize journalists ahead of the exercise.
The dialogue, convened by the State Primary Health Care Board with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), aimed to strengthen communication around the upcoming immunization activities.
Salahudeen said the teams would vaccinate children against measles, rubella and other childhood killer diseases, ensuring comprehensive coverage in all settlements, including hard-to-reach communities.
He explained that the 1,997 teams comprised vaccinators, recorders, supervisors and influential community members supporting mobilization efforts.
According to him, all personnel have been trained on vaccination protocols and interpersonal communication to ensure effective outreach and guarantee that every eligible child receives lifesaving routine immunization.
He added that the November campaign targets about 1.2 million children across urban and rural communities in the state.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Hussaini Yakubu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery and expanding access to quality immunization services.
Yakubu highlighted Gov. Dauda Lawal’s dedication to ensuring that every eligible child is fully vaccinated against preventable diseases, noting that community sensitization efforts have been intensified statewide.
He said traditional, religious and community leaders had been actively engaged to support mobilization and counter misinformation discouraging routine immunization.
The Executive Secretary also acknowledged UNICEF, WHO, e-Health, Sultan Foundation, Solina and Chigagari Foundation for their continued support toward successful immunization campaigns.
Yakubu commended the media for sustained public enlightenment efforts, describing their role as essential in promoting awareness of immunization against polio and other preventable childhood diseases.
