ASHENEWS reports that the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed the killing of one of its staff alongside her six-month-old baby in a bombing in Gaza.
The deceased also lost her husband and two brothers in the incident.
The WHO, in a post published on its official X handle, said that the deceased, Dima Abdullatif Mohammed Alhaj was killed in the occupied Palestinian territory on Tuesday.
“Dima died today when her parents’ house in southern Gaza—where she had evacuated from Gaza City—was bombed. She was tragically killed alongside her husband, their six-month-old baby boy, and her two brothers. Reportedly, over 50 family and community members sheltering in the same house also died,” the post said.
Commenting on the incident, the Director General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom expressed shock over the ongoing carnage in the area.
Adhanom’s tweet reads “My colleagues and I are devastated: we have lost one of our own in #Gaza today.
“Our young @WHOoPt colleague Dima Alhaj was tragically killed alongside her 6-month-old baby, her husband, and 2 brothers. Reportedly multiple other family members sheltering in the same house were also killed.
“I have no words to describe our grief.
“This loss comes on top of other losses in the @UN family since 7 October: 108 @UNRWA colleagues have been killed.
“This horror must end.
“All humanitarians and civilians must be protected.
“Ceasefire. NOW.”
The WHO’s statement also decried the killings of UN workers as well as other civilians in the area since the beginning of the unrest.
“The death of Dima and her family is another example of the senseless loss in this conflict. Civilians have died in their homes, at their workplaces, while evacuating, while sheltering in schools, while being cared for in hospitals.
“When will it stop?
“We plead again with all those who hold in their hands the power to end this conflict to do so.
“All of the WHO stands alongside Dima’s family and colleagues in the occupied Palestinian territory, the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, and across the organization to mourn her loss.”
