The Sokoto State government has announced plans to digitalize medical records at the Orthopedic Hospital Wamakko.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruku Wurno, disclosed this during an inspection visit to the hospital on Thursday.
The Commissioner stated that the initiative aims to ensure that all patients visiting the hospital are properly documented, having observed that no records were available regarding the hospital’s activities.
The Commissioner also issued a one-month ultimatum to the hospital’s management to put the renovated Amenity and Main Theater rooms into use, as both facilities have remained abandoned for over ten years.
Additionally, he directed the Director of Medical Services at the Ministry to deploy bio-engineers to take inventory of all available hospital equipment.
Wurno further charged the hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD) to ensure staff punctuality to justify their salaries.
According to him, the Ministry will not tolerate laxity or absenteeism, emphasizing the need for a change in attitude among staff.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving the hospital’s services, recognizing its significance not only for the people of Sokoto but also for neighboring states.
In his response, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Abdulkadir Mu’azu, promised to address all observations raised by the Commissioner.
He also took the opportunity to highlight some of the hospital’s achievements during his tenure.
During the visit, the commissioner was accompanied by Directors of the Ministry.
