A Nigerian doctor, Dr. Olufunmilayo Ogunsanya, has warned people to stop drinking too many energy drinks, saying they can be very dangerous and might even lead to death.
The doctor, who is known as #OurFavOnlineDoc on X (formerly Twitter), said most energy drinks contain a lot of sugar and caffeine. These ingredients can give a quick energy boost but may also cause serious health problems.
He explained that the sugar gives you energy, and the caffeine makes you feel more awake and alert for a short time.
However, he warned that many people don’t realize how harmful too much caffeine can be.
He said that high amounts of caffeine can hurt your stomach, make ulcers worse, or even cause stomach pain in some people.
Dr. Ogunsanya also said caffeine can overstimulate the heart, causing fast or irregular heartbeat, headaches, dizziness, blurry vision, chest pain, and in severe cases, collapse.
He added that if someone already has a heart problem and doesn’t know it, drinking energy drinks could make things much worse or even be deadly.
The doctor pointed out that some people think energy drinks are harmless, but they’re actually very risky—especially when mixed with alcohol.
He warned that drinking too many energy drinks, especially with alcohol, is very dangerous and could lead to sudden death.
Dr. Ogunsanya advised people to avoid energy drinks completely. But if they must drink them, they should not have more than one can a day
