The Osun State Hospitals Management Board (OSSHMB) says Gov. Ademola Adeleke’s upscaling of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the state has reduced maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates.
The OSSHMB Chairman, Dr Kingsley Akinroye, said this in a statement made available on Thursday in Lagos.
He applauded the state governor’s Wife, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, for her donations to the First Baby of the Year 2025 at Osun State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo.
Akinroye further thanked Mrs Adeleke for her initiatives focused on women and children, since the inception of the Adeleke administration in the state.
The chairman said: “This confirms that you are aware that before the inception of Gov. Adeleke’s Administration, the maternal and child morbidity and mortality rate in Osun State was one of the highest in Nigeria, specifically 33 out of 36 states.
“However, within two years, specifically by November 2024, as assessed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, Osun State came first in the Grand National Challenge.
“The state was awarded a huge financial amount in recognition of the upscaling of the Osun State Primary Health Care System by Gov. Ademola Adeleke.”
Moving forward, Akinroye urged the governor’s wife to support raising the Secondary Health Care System level in Osun regarding infrastructure and renovation to a high standard.
According to him, all the health facilities need medical doctors, nurses and laboratory staff.
Akinroye, also the Executive Director of Nigeria Heart Foundation (NHF) noted that the last recruitment of full-time staff into all government-owned hospitals in Osun State was done in 2013.
“We seek your voice and support to implore Gov. Ademola Adeleke to open the door of employment for healthcare workers in 2025 – medical doctors, nurses and laboratory staff.
“This is in addition to giving them a ‘special welfare package’, to facilitate making Osun State the first choice for the employment of health personnel in Nigeria to forestall the ‘japa syndrome’ affecting states in the country,” he said.
According to the OSSHMB chairman, if the above issues are looked into, it will enhance Osun State’s health delivery status, being one of Gov. Adeleke’s Administration’s five-point agenda.
He said that health and wellness were also from a global perspective, goal three of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
