The Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University, Sokoto (NWUS), Professor Mukhtar Umar Bunza, has reaffirmed the university’s commitment to strong inter-institutional collaboration with a courtesy visit to the College of Medical Sciences, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS).
Professor Bunza, who led a delegation of senior officials from NWUS, was received by the Provost of the UDUS College of Medical Sciences, Professor Abdulgafar Jimoh. He explained that the visit was aimed at deepening academic and professional cooperation between the Colleges of Health Sciences of both institutions, particularly in teaching, research, and clinical training.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, collaboration remains critical to the growth and sustainability of NWUS as a relatively young university.

“NWUS, as a young university, cannot thrive in isolation. Collaboration is not optional for us; it is a necessity,” Professor Bunza said. “We have previously paid similar courtesy visits to Usmanu Danfodiyo University, which serves as our mentoring institution. On that occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of UDUS, Professor Bashir Garba, assured us of support in all areas of need.”
He added that the NWUS management had also visited the Chief Medical Director of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Professor Sabir Anas, who similarly pledged institutional support to ensure the successful development of NWUS programmes.
Professor Bunza told the Provost that the visit to the College of Medical Sciences was specifically to seek guidance, mentorship, and technical support, noting that NWUS would continue to rely on the experience of UDUS in building strong and credible health science programmes.
“We are here to canvass for your support. We will always invite you to guide us as we grow and strengthen our systems,” he stated.
In his response, Professor Jimoh warmly welcomed the delegation and assured them of the College’s readiness to collaborate fully with NWUS. He described the success of NWUS as a shared responsibility within the academic community of Sokoto State.
“The doors of the College of Medical Sciences are always open to Northwest University Sokoto,” Professor Jimoh said. “We will consider it mandatory to ensure that NWUS succeeds. Please do not hesitate or drag your feet in reaching out to us for anything you require. We will work together, and you can count on our support.”
The visit underscores ongoing efforts by NWUS to build strategic partnerships with established institutions as part of its broader vision to deliver quality medical and health sciences education anchored on mentorship, collaboration, and shared academic excellence.
The NWUS team, including the Registrar, Umar Musa Garun Babba; Bursar, Sarkin Baki Garba Shinkafi; Provost of NWUS College of Medical Science, Prof. Umar Muhammad; Deputy Provost, Dr Jamil Lukman; and the College Secretary, Asmau Abdullahi, were taken on a guided tour to the Murbid Anatomy Laboratory, Dissecting Room and the College Museum.
