Prof. Icha Onche, Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Jos, says the hospital has performed 154 major surgeries, treated 8,502 outpatients and generated ₦72 million in revenue since clinical operations began in 2025.
Onche disclosed this on Wednesday in Jos while updating the public on the hospital’s achievements and services since clinical operations commenced on 20 October 2025.
He said the hospital had carried out 159 surgeries in total, of which 154 were major reconstructive procedures. He added that 259 patients had been admitted and five patients had received major prosthetic fittings.
Onche said the hospital continues to provide specialised orthopaedic care and that management remains committed to improving healthcare delivery through quality services and modern medical interventions. He noted significant progress in patient management, surgical procedures and other clinical services during the period under review.
He assured the public that the hospital would continue to expand its services to ensure accessible and efficient orthopaedic care.
However, Onche identified inadequate funding as the hospital’s major challenge. He said this has affected operations, with only two of its three theatres currently functional. He also decried the shortage of clinical personnel, particularly consultants.
The hospital was established in 2023. It began outpatient services on 20 May 2025 and commenced full-scale operations—admitting inpatients, conducting surgeries and providing emergency trauma care (especially for limbs and spine)—on 20 October 2025.
The facility offers reconstructive procedures, hip and knee arthroplasty, limb lengthening/reconstruction, management of bone gaps, fractures and spine surgeries, as well as physiotherapy, paediatric orthopaedic services, arthroscopy, sports medicine, and prosthetic and orthotic services.
