ASHENEWS reports that the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives Borgu branch has held its Borgu Nurses week celebration despite security challenges in the state.
The event featured a peaceful rally around New Bussa township Borgu Local Government headquarters, lecture at the Borgu Youth Development Association’s unity square, and a free medical outreach at the Borgi Emirate Jahi ground in New Bussa.
The celebration with the theme “Our nurse, our future” witnessed low turnout to the event which was occasioned to the security issues in country which Borgu Emirate is not spared to.
The Vice Chairman of Borgu chapter of the NANNM National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Comrade Alhassan Suleiman called for synergy between nurses and all health related personnel.
The Vice Chairman who represented the Chairman and the association as also called for assistance from the government and the host community to support their programs and come out for the free medical outreach.
He appreciated the Emir of Borgu, Dr. Muhammad Sani Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III for being represented despite short notice.
The Guest Lecturer, Comrade Juda Gana gave a lecture with the tittle, “Nurses – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”.
The lecture was focused on selfless service to humanity, change of attitude towards one another and being computer literate.
In attendance were the state chapter vice chairman Comrade Erond Jonathan, Director Nursing services Minna, Malam Muhammad Bala Muhammed, Borgu Nurses association branch chairman com. Abu Bakar Umar T. Gen. Hospital New Bussa, District Head of Sabuke who was retired health personnel was also in attendance and represented the Emir of Borgu and a host of other sons and daughters of Borgu.
The Emir representative, the District Head of Sabuke Alh Isa Damisa who is a retired nurse in his remark warned the nurses to careful in drugs administration to the patients.
The association also held a medical outreach where various testing and checkings were done.
An officer, Malam Adamu Tsoho expressed his delight at the turnout of the community to the medical outreach adding that several of the cases recorded and tested include malaria, ulcer, eye problems and blood pressure.
He states that severe cases encountered were referred to the General Hospital New Bussa for handling.
To end the programme, an award was given to the former chairperson of the association in Borgu, Nurse Zainab Muhammad Tanko for her selfless service to humanity.
Zainab while receiving the award appreciated the association for deeming her worthy of the award and prayed for cooperation between nurses.
