ASHENEWS reports that the federal government is set to release the first-ever state of health report of the country, a detailed report of the country’s health sector.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate announced this during a press briefing in Abuja.
According to him, the report will provide a comprehensive analysis of the current status of the nation’s health system and outline a strategic path forward.
“The State of Health Report represents a new era in Nigerian health policy, where data and accountability drive change,” stated Prof. Pate.
“This report reflects the voice of Nigerians and the government’s commitment to improving health outcomes for all.”
A statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry of Health said that the report will be reviewed during the forthcoming Health Sector Joint Annual Review (JAR).
“During the review, the Ministry will review data from recent national surveys, which gathered citizen perspectives on health sector performance, alongside key government initiatives.
“This collaborative assessment will enable a clear evaluation of the health sector’s challenges, achievements, and areas for improvement.”
The minister emphasised that the annual State of Health Report will address critical health issues such as maternal and child health, emergency response, disease control, and the affordability of pharmaceuticals.
“These reviews will guide the government and stakeholders to effectively address challenges and drive impactful solutions.
“He called upon the media and stakeholders to champion this initiative, underlining the importance of a coordinated, cross-sectoral approach. “The Joint Annual Review, coordinated through the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp), will involve our agencies, parastatals, development partners, and media in an ongoing dialogue to promote accountability, track progress, and build a unified ‘One Health’ narrative.”
Also Commenting on the development, the National Coordinator of the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp), Dr. Muntaqa Sadiq, explained that this year’s JAR will establish a baseline for future targets and priorities, ensuring that government resources are deployed efficiently for maximum impact.
Dr Sadiq emphasized that these engagements aim to strengthen collaboration among state and federal entities to ensure adherence to the compact signed on the Nigeria Health Sector Investment Renewal Initiative of Government.
The Ministry’s Health Sector Joint Annual Review (JAR) will be held from November 6-8, 2024, bringing together representatives from government, development partners, NGOs, community organizations, and the private sector.
