Niger state government has announced January 24th as the new resumption date for primary and secondary schools.
The schools will resume to start first term of the 2020/2021 academic session.
ASHENEWS reports that the state government in December had announced January 4th as resumption date for the session but shifted to 18th January.
However, in a statement on Friday, the Commissioner of Education, Hajiya Hanatu Jibrin said the new date was arrived at after due consultation with different stakeholders.
She noted that the state government had to approach the resumption date with caution to ensure the safety of school managers, teachers and the students.
According to her, the one week gap is to enable all schools to put the necessary protective measures in place while parents, students and pupils make provisions to comply with COVID-19 protocols in full.
“While we are in tune with the January 18, 2021 date set for the resumption of schools across the country, we chose to be on the side of caution.
“Therefore, after consultation with different stakeholders, all Basic and Secondary Schools are to resume for classes on Sunday, January 24, 2021, for students in boarding schools and Monday, January 25, 2021, for students in day schools.
“The one week is to enable all schools to put the necessary protective measures in place while parents, students and pupils make provisions to comply with COVID 19 protocols in full”, she said.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the Ministry had instituted mechanisms for strict and continuous monitoring of compliance with COVID-19 protocols, while urging all stakeholders, principals, headteachers, teachers and workers to ensure full compliance.
