ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Ministry of Health and Hospital Services has faulted the ongoing recruitment process of health workers, and called for its immediate cancellation.
This demand is contained in a letter by the state Commissioner of Health, Muhammad Muhammad Makusidi addressed to the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission.
The letter dated January 17, 2023 claimed that the exercise did not involve the technical personnel of the healthcare sector in the recruitment process.
“The Computer Base Test were not professionally conducted as it was not “cross cutting” and in some instances not cadre specifics. The interviews were also conducted without the medical technical team. This falls short of the standard requirements for recruitment into the sector.
“With the increasing wave of unaccredited schools and fake certificates, we must be cautious to avoid recruitment of quacks into our systems.
“In the light of forgoing, we hereby call for a cancellation of the whole process for a fresh one that will be professionally accepted and in tandem with with global best practices.
“The technical health officers must be involved in the recruitment processes in order to allow for engagement of only qualified and competent applicants,” the letter reads.
Recall that the state government recently commenced the process for the recruitment of 3,000 workers into the civil service.
According to the government, the newly appointed workers would cost the state government a monthly wage of N300 million.
