The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Sokoto State Command, says that from June 26, 2024, to date, it has intercepted a total of 2,733.704 kilograms of illicit drugs.
The State Commander, Adamu M. Iro, made this known while briefing journalists during the commemoration of the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the command headquarters in Sokoto.
He stated that the seized illicit drugs included 1,393.461 kg of Cannabis Sativa, 878.643 kg of Tramadol, Diazepam, Exol, Rohypnol, and Methamphetamine, as well as 461.600 kg of Codeine syrup.
“From June 26, 2024, to date, the total seizures are as follows: the weight of Cannabis Sativa was 1,393.461 kg; psychotropic substances, including Tramadol, Diazepam, Exol, Rohypnol, and Meth, weighed 878.643 kg; while Codeine syrup accounted for 461.600 kg. The total of all seizures is 2,733.704 kg,” he revealed.
According to him, a total of 97 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures, comprising 89 males and 8 females.
He also noted that 22 convictions have been secured so far.
Meanwhile, he revealed that 63 clients have undergone counseling and rehabilitation at the agency’s rehabilitation facility, now renamed Caliphate Hope Center.
He recalled that earlier this year, the Governor facilitated a general renovation and upgrade of the rehab center, elevating it to one of the best in the country.
While reaffirming the agency’s commitment to the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the commander also appreciated the efforts of the state governor, Ahmad Aliyu, and their sister security agencies for their continued support.
He said their scorecard within the period may not have been possible without support and cooperation from them.
The State Commander, therefore, said they must promote a culture of awareness, support, and inclusivity, combating stigma and discrimination against those affected by substance abuse disorder.
