The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to frozen food sellers, urging them to cease the sale and distribution of unregistered and prohibited products.
This announcement was made during a one-day sensitization program at Kado Fish Market in Abuja.
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by Mr. Kenneth Azikiwe, emphasized the importance of stopping the importation and distribution of banned products to support local farmers and producers of frozen food.
Adeyeye reiterated NAFDAC’s dedication to eliminating illegal production, distribution, and sale of unregistered packaged food, water, and other regulated products, particularly during the festive season.
The program aims to promote good storage and distribution practices in the market, ensuring that frozen chicken, fish, and meat products are stored properly for public safety.
She urged members of market associations to prioritize purchasing locally manufactured and NAFDAC-registered frozen products to guarantee quality and safety for consumers.
Adeyeye warned that violators of the Federal Government’s ban on the importation of frozen chicken, turkey, and catfish would face strict enforcement measures.
The Chairman of the Frozen Food Sellers Association at Kado Fish Market, Ibrahim Mohammed expressed support for NAFDAC’s regulations and assured compliance among members to promote public health.
He also appealed for fairness and compassion in the enforcement of these policies.
In addition to the sensitization program, NAFDAC has conducted inspections of water production factories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ensure compliance with hygienic standards and good manufacturing practices among sachet and table water producers.
