Dr. Donald Ofili, the Acting Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), has repeated the council’s promise to work together with the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS) to improve medical testing in Nigeria.
This was shared in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja by Mrs. Fidelia Ibeh, who is the Head of the Council’s Corporate Affairs Unit.
Dr. Ofili said this partnership aims to raise the quality of medical testing across West Africa and support the goals of the West African Health Organisation.
He gave this message during the 5th Regional Conference of the College, which was held in Lagos. The theme of the conference was “Advancing Diagnosis and Medical Laboratory Service Using Cutting-Edge Innovations and AI: African Agenda.”
Dr. Ofili said these kinds of partnerships are important for bringing the region together to improve medical lab science and healthcare through new ideas and technology.
He encouraged Fellows of WAPCMLS to continue being professional and to stand out by showing strong skills and dedication—qualities that are the foundation of the College’s fellowship.
He said that the new partnership between MLSCN and WAPCMLS is a smart step to use advanced technology and AI to improve healthcare in West Africa.
Dr. Ofili also talked about the history of the partnership, saying MLSCN helped set up the College more than ten years ago.
“From the beginning, MLSCN played a big role in starting WAPCMLS and was involved in making it official,” he said.
He praised the progress of the College and called it a center of excellence that builds expert knowledge and produces well-trained professionals.
He promised that MLSCN will continue to support the College and make sure that its Fellows are properly recognized in public service.
Dr. Ofili also encouraged Fellows to share their knowledge and skills across West Africa to help others in the field.
