The Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD), Lagos State Chapter, has appealed to the Lagos State Government to intervene and resolve the ongoing industrial action by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU).
The appeal was made in a statement jointly signed by the Guild’s Chairman, Mr. Adekoya Julius, and Secretary-General, Dr. Leo Aniakor, on Thursday in Lagos.
The Guild expressed concern over the growing impact of the strike on healthcare delivery across the state.
“The withdrawal of services at screening centres has significantly constrained critical laboratory testing required for safe blood transfusion and effective patient management,” the statement said.
“These disruptions are causing avoidable delays in diagnosis and treatment, placing the health and lives of Lagos residents at serious risk,” it added.
The GMLD Lagos cautioned that progress and investments made by the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee (LSBTC) in strengthening safe and reliable blood services could be undermined if the strike continues without timely resolution.
The Guild urged the Executive Governor of Lagos State to use his office to facilitate constructive dialogue among all stakeholders and bring the strike to a prompt and peaceful conclusion in the interest of public health.
The GMLD Lagos reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and actions that enhance healthcare delivery and safeguard the wellbeing of all Lagos residents.
